Leyton County Cricket Ground

London is blessed with some of the world’s most iconic cricket grounds. Their greenery and beautifully maintained pavilions are renowned for their quality, craftsmanship and sheer reputation. The best players in the history of the game have set foot on that semicircle. It’s the equivalent of walking out at Wembley or the Camp Nou.

Leyton County Cricket Ground is not amongst these hallowed ranks. It’s just an ordinary club, a community run and community focussed place for those that love the game. What it lacks in grandeur, it makes up for in spirit. It gives people a chance to get into the sport, and to find out what makes it so compelling. It gives kids a chance to escape crime and have something productive to do with their time. Ultimately, it’s one of the old model of sports centres: a community hub that acts as meeting point for people of all races and incomes.

It’s a great place for newcomers in the east of the city to start. Beginners’ classes are frequent and informative, but there are plenty of options for existing players too. Fees are reasonable, and definitely affordable for those on a budget, though equipment hire can add up over time.
