Want your chance to be pictured next to idols such as One Direction, the Queen and Michael Jackson? Well, Madame Tussauds is the next best thing, offering waxworks of hundreds of famous figures, ranging from rock stars to royalty. The range and breadth of the figures is exceptional, offering something for all of the family.
More importantly, the figures are incredibly high quality. Waxworks have fallen out of popularity as a modern attraction, mainly due to the rather poor quality that many of them have in their models. Madame Tussauds is the exception, the gold standard by which all others are judged. Its figures are truly amazing, with some of the most modern ones bearing an almost lifelike resemblance to the figures that they represent.
The history of its creator forms a fascinating part of the experience in its own right: few realise quite how long ago she lived. Her original works are still on display, including an excellent portrayal of one of France’s greatest minds Voltaire. Despite being over 200 years old, the model is still in excellent condition and is a remarkably elegant example of the art that’s also steeped in historical appeal.
A must see for tourists, though getting there early is advised: by midday serious queues begin to form.
