The atmosphere in Palmer’s Lodge is the kind of friendly vibe that makes backpackers remember why they love to travel so much. It’s that communal, excited ambiance that will leave even the most weary with a smile on their face. Usually, when you hear this about a hostel it means that there’s a real party mood about, but this place is different. It’s a laid back friendliness, an earnest respect for fellow travellers that seems infectious. The staff do everything they can foster it, and it makes all the difference. There’s nothing quite like coming back to the sound of laughter and joy each and every evening.
Not that these guys don’t know how to party. The hostel’s own bar can be a riotous affair at times: full of energy and excitement. If you’re looking for more than a roof over your head, a place where you can actively enjoy yourself, then this might be the hostel for you. It’s certainly one that we have a soft spot for: we think that hostels should be more than just beds that you return to at the very end of the day. They should be at the heart of your enjoyment, something you have fun because of, not inspite of.
