Portobello Road Market
The infamous market from the Paddington series, and one of the capital’s most beloved treasures, Portobello Road is a real oddity. It really does sell a bit of everything, but its antiques that lure most people here. Things are priced reasonably, though it’s hardly the kind of place that you’re going to find a bargain. It’s too popular and the traders far too savvy for that. If anything, you have to be careful not to spend too much on the assorted furniture and bric-a-brac that makes up many of the stalls.
Still, with keen eyes and decent knowledge it’s one of the capital’s best spots for finding great items. Everything from antique brass door knockers to stunning oak tables come through here regularly and few outdoor markets in the city can compete with the sort of quality on offer here on a regular basis. We’re talking incredible items, everyday. There’s rarely a time when you’ll head to Portobello Road Market and not emerge with at least one item.
Food, drink and other products are available but they’re a forethought really. Indulge yourself in a hot cinnamon bun whilst you browse, by all means, but if you’re making the journey out here it should be for the antiques. They’re worth it.
