Arguably the most iconic cricket ground in history, The Oval has become something of a mecca for fans of the game. Attending the last test match of the season here, bathed in the summer sun, is something that most followers of cricket dream of. It’s a chance to see an all important game in an iconic location: what’s not to love.
The ground itself is state of the art, having benefited from 2 refurbishments in the noughties. Improvements included telescopic poles for floodlights and increased capacity, both designed to enhance the viewing experience. There are plans to add even more features in the near future, although finding the time to do so has been a major stumbling block.
The atmosphere is always electric, something that can be lacking in the longer games. There’s just something about the place that seems to arouse the passion in people, and keep them cheering for hours on end. You can always be sure of a good game here, and people are in high spirits even if things begin to drag on a little. Whisper it, but the place is normally so friendly that even the boring games are enjoyable, purely because of the crowd.
